Every dance season I am asked to reproduce costumes that are worn by famous people. Generally these famous people either wear these costumes on stage at concerts, on the red carpet or in music videos.
This past season was no exception and I was asked to take off one of Lady GaGa’s costumes for Dance Precisions in Placentia, California.

Taking off these types of costumes is difficult for a number of reasons:
1. Most of these costumes are extremely elaborate.
2. Budgets are limited due to the size of the customer (Dance Studio vs. Major Music Company)
3. The demands placed on the costume by dance studios often exceed those of performing artists because the moves the dancers do exceed the ability of most performing artists (aerials are an example).
4. Special considerations have to be addressed. In the case of this costume we had three special concerns. First the costume had to be able to fit in a suitcase because the studio was traveling to Florida (as you see below, this costume had a skirt that stood out at a 90 degree angle and had a lapel that stood up). Second, the costume had to last the entire season, which consisted of more than 10 performances. Third, the costume had to fit everyone in the group from the smallest to the largest girl.
Regardless of all these issues, we undertake projects like this all the time because we enjoy creating couture-type costumes and find it challenging to solve all the problems described above. We also produce standard dance costumes, but we like a good challenge now and then. Below is our interpretation of this costume:
